San Diego Autumns

Your cool breeze awakens me in the morning.
It was that, or my cell phone blaring an annoying 5 second tune.
I stumble into the living room, drawing back the shades.
Clouds. Grey clouds.

Walking to work, the hummingbirds chase each other.
Avoid the snails and worms, who have braved the bricks despite the all our feet.
I smile at the grounds crew, out early mowing.
Everything is green. Green, green, green.

My sandals flip-flop in the 65-degree weather.
Sweaters and skirts are a winning combination.
As the day progresses, the sun pushes its way through, creating pockets of light.
White, piercing light.

But where is autumn??
Yellow maple leaves.
Orange pumpkins and red apples.
Brown cider with the weird sediment at the bottom you have to shake up.

Nope. Nothing.
People put up black Halloween decorations next to their aqua swimming pools.
The sun sets, turning the clouds a pink-purple combination.
I am blue with disappointment.
