First Impressions

So far, so good!! I can't believe I am here, sitting in my commons room, IN CALIFORNIA. It still seems a little surreal.

I landed here in San Diego around 1:30 p.m. Pacific Time w/ the sun shining and a beautiful breeze sweeping across the bay. The weather here is incredible. Immediately, I was met by Alfredo, the incredibly friendly USOC driver who picked me up in a very official-looking USOC van. He drove me through downtown which is LOVELY. There are palm trees, flowers and air craft carriers everywhere.

The campus is even better. So beautiful. Trees and flowers are everywhere, minus the fleets. The OTC sits right in the foothills and has a huge lake bordering one side where Rowing, Canoe & Kayak train. Which is Otay, by the way. When I first arrived, there was an international beach volleyball tournament taking place and soccer scrimmages. Apparently it's always like that. Tons of camps coming every week w/ athletes from all around the world.

In fact, as I was dragging all my crap to my new apartment, an El Salvadorian athlete(an athlete from El Salvador??) saw my plight and kindly helped me to my door. I guess I didn't expect a campus in the United States to be so diverse. Just sitting by the window, I've already heard 3 different languages, excluding English. So that makes 4 languages then.

Tomorrow is my first day of work and I am getting really excited!! Wish me luck.
