I can't believe I've only been here a month!! It feels so much longer. There's been lots of new things that I've experienced thus far, but here's a short list of what I've learned in my 5 weeks of working here at the OTC in Chula Vista:
1) If you have the chance to get off campus, DO IT.
2) Athletes are not scary people. Yes, they may Olympians, but they're still normal human beings and liked to be treated as such. Don't be afraid to sit down at a table full of athletes. You might make a new friend.
3) Asbury's dorm are not the smallest in the world. Trust me. It could be worse.
4) There are a lot of random sports out there that don't get a lot of press. Take the time to learn about these sports because they're actually more interesting than the ones on TV. I would recommend Archery, BMX or Rugby to start.
5) Your boss is the greatest person in the world. Second to Jesus, your family and friends. So I guess that pushes it to fourth place. (Sorry, but you're still really cool.)
6) Don't bring so many clothes. You'll just live out of sandles and short-sleeved shirts anyways.
7) Make time to talk w/ people back home. Because otherwise it'll be 11:00 at night and you can't call because it's 2 a.m. and you'll become depressed from lack of communication.
8) Just because the ice cream is "healthy" here, doesn't mean you can eat it every day and not gain weight.
9) I still hate rattlesnakes. And raccoons are still annoying.
A couple thoughts:
ReplyDelete1. APU's dorms are regularly tripled despite being built as 2-person rooms. I think dorms are generally a rough experience, no matter the campus.
2. I also don't like Rattlesnakes, but at least they give you warning of their presence before it's too late (they don't like you, either).
3. Don't bring so many clothes. We all wear shorts and t-shirts and sandals as much as possible (all year round).
