In Cahoots w/ Boots

[Author's Note: All dancing mentioned throughout this post was previously choreographed. Probably by someone who lived in the boondocks or backwoods somewhere in the South. To them, I thank you.]

Sometimes I feel like there are places more Southern than the South. I found one such spot last night all the way out here in San Diego, California. To celebrate my last weekend in Cali, my roommate and I went line dancing last night. Yes, line dancing. In San Diego. I was a little surprised myself. Then I thought it couldn't be legitimate line dancing, more just like city folk trying to look like fools. Turns out I was the one looking like a fool out on the dance floor.

This joint was intense. It's like I stepped into a portal and I was back in Kentucky, complete with cowboy hats, Southern drawls and a huge horse statue in the corner. O yeah, this place was the real deal. Luckily I came properly attired to this outing. With my trusty cowboy boots on, I was ready to hit the dance floor. One problem: I haven't line danced in 2 years and have no eye-foot coordination. My dance moves (or lack thereof) were a dead giveaway of my real "city girl" persona.

There were a few other things I learned last night that I would like to share:

1) I learned that jeans tucked into your boots is the first sign that you're a city-dweller. Boots were made for walkin', as well a workin' and dancin', not fashion'.

2) Asian men make really good line dance partners. Seriously. There were 3 guys out there last night showing up all the white people in the place.

3) I learned to two-step!! Super proud of myself. I didn't want to do it at first, but was eventually convinced to give a try. The spins are my favorite part.

4) Country boys are great. Don't know if I could marry one, but after every dance, they tip their hat to their partner and then escort them off the dance floor. Also very polite when talking to you. Making their mommas proud, such gentlemen.

Despite my bad dancing, I still had tons of fun and it made me miss Asbury a little bit. I can't wait to go back and Watermelon Crawl, Electric Slide and Boot Scootin' Boogie w/ all my friends!!
