Sorry this is late y’all!! The wireless has been down for a couple of days turning our lives into chaos. They're actually making us plug cables into the wall to finally get internet service. It's awful. Where are we, 2003?? But I have found access and will now give a short little list of things I’ve learned this month. (If you haven’t had time to read my blog, here’s your chance to catch up. DAD.)
1) Thanksgiving by oneself isn’t fun. Don’t ever do it. If you ever find yourself lonesome on a holiday, call me and we’ll work something out. Even if it’s just Skype (See #7)
2) Athletes have to do a lot more than just work out twice a day. Most of them work at least one part-time job, work w/ a charity organization, and taking classes trying to obtain master’s degrees or prepare for a post-collegiate test (GRE, LSAT, MCAT, PHAT, etc)
3) Christmas decorating is a great stress reliever and mood pick-me-up. Cookie decorating is the same way, except you get to eat your creations and don’t have to worry about tinsel getting stuck in your teeth.
4) It doesn’t make a difference if you’re in San Diego or Chicago, a sore throat is a sore throat. It will find you.
5) Your boss is the greatest person in the world. Second to Jesus, your family and friends. (Yup, she’s still da best.)
6) I should’ve brought more winter gear. Who knew it would get down into the 30’s overnight?? I think I’m sliding into the California mentality . . . I’ve been here too long.
7) Skype is wonderful. Lifesaver. I like it a lot.
8) Barriers appear in your life, sometimes because of outside circumstances, but usually because you put them up yourself. You think just because you’ve never done something before that it won’t happen. Fear is a very powerful motivator. But don’t let the fear or the barriers control you. It’s hard to step out in faith, but God called us out and gave us a purpose. It’s our responsibility to live our lives to the fullest potential. If God isn’t pleased w/ the path you take, he’ll let you know tout suite. The important part is to listen to God’s voice. He’s always there.
9) Yesterday we had our last official bible study of the year. Some of the athletes are leaving for competitions or conventions then heading home, so we decided this would be our last meeting. They also had a “surprise” going-away party for me. Didn’t work out exactly as planned, but it was great and “surprising” in a sense. I guess you never realize how close you grow to people until they’re just about to leave. Funny how that works, huh??
